Remote

Martin Brand (The Netherlands, 2007, video, 12:37)

Remote unfolds across a series of loosely connected spaces: a stranger’s apartment, skaters in a park, and passersby observed on the street. Through cinematic and photographic acts of looking, the film adopts a personal, essayistic mode, situating itself between intimacy and distance. Moments that appear incidental become charged through framing and duration, rendering the everyday both familiar and estranged. By oscillating between private interiors and public encounters, the film probes the unstable boundary between observer and observed, exploring how proximity and detachment shape our perception of others and the spaces they inhabit.
