Bas van Koolwijk and Gert-Jan Prins present their new performance, SYNCHRONATOR, in conjunction with their eponymous Impakt Works residency, for which they developed proprietary hardware to record and project non-video signals.

The evening opens with a screening of “early video experiments” by artists including the Vasulkas from the 1970s. More recent work by the Austrian duo reMI will also be featured. Also on display is the installation “Camera Lucida” by the Russian duo Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand. In “Camera Lucida,” ultrasonic sound waves are converted into light using sonoluminescence. During the event, the installation will be live-acted by the music of German sound artist Asmus Tietchens.

Bas van Koolwijk

Bas van Koolwijk is a Dutch video and audio artist. He uses both sound and image, be it analogue or in numerical code, as interchangeable data. He produces visual and acoustic compositions in which both manifestations powerfully interact. His works can often be seen as an attack on the illusion of the medium itself. basvankoolwijk.com

Gert-Jan Prins

Gert-Jan Prins has developed an electronic system using circuits from radio, television, and broadcasting technology, creating unprecedented feedback and noise patterns in sound and television images. He regularly collaborates with E-RAX, The Flirts with Cor Fuhler, and MIMEO.
