E*Rock
An evening with Videoclips, Films and Live Performance
E*Rock from Portland, Oregon is one of the most important representatives of the new generation of American media artists. His work is characterised by a trashy lo-fi approach and an ideosyncratic use of colour. Old computer games, cartoons and street culture are obvious sources of inspiration. E*Rock stands out for his great versatility and his many collaborations. Thus, he joined forces with Cory Arcangel and Paper Rad to establish the Wyld File collective. Recently, Wyld File launched the Dogman 99 manifesto to give a new impulse to the innovative use of Flash in animations and music videos. Furthermore, E*Rock runs various music labels. At the Impakt Event, E*Rock will show some of his own works (such as music videos for Beck and Mumble Boy) and some works by artists he feels related to. He will also give a music performance, accompanied by one of his own videos.
The E*Rock Event is part of the residency of the Latvian artist Ola Vasiljeva at Impakt Works, the media lab of Impakt. Ola Vasiljeva invited E*Rock to Utrecht because of her affinity with his work. ‘Michael Jacksons Five’, a video Ola Vasiljeva made during her residency, will have its premiere at the Event.
