Are you an art enthusiast, culture vulture, maker, creative mind, or simply interested in the recent developments in the field of (digital) art, culture, and design? Join us on Sunday 27th September for the Makers Meet & Eat, and get inspired by the stories of various makers. This year’s theme is “Multispecies”.

During the Makers Meet & Eat, makers will talk about their work, methods, and research in the field of (digital) art, culture and design. An afternoon for meeting people, sharing knowledge, and tricks of the trade. Would you like to present your own work? Take the stage at our “wild card” table! We end the day with a drink and a bite.

The event is open to Dutch and English speakers. The main language is English.

For this edition we invited the following makers:

Lola Mo
Lola Mo’s works emerge from fantasy worlds and emotional landscapes that take shape in her imagination. Her work is not primarily conceptual in the traditional sense; it is experiential. She creates scenographic environments that can be seen, heard, smelled and felt—worlds inhabited by creatures, characters, rituals and atmospheres.

Her multidisciplinary practice combines media such as sculpture, costume, sound, scent, performance, writing and assemblage. Recurring themes include artificial nature, bodily transformation, worship and ritual, camp, kitsch, B-movie aesthetics, the performance of femininity, sex work, fetishism, alter egos and her own experiences of body dysmorphia. Her installations function as immersive worlds rather than as individual works of art.

Joeri Boelhouwer
Returning to memories of his childhood, Joeri Boelhouwer (b. 1999) reconstructs places and experiences through photography and digitally modelled 3D environments. He merges these into hyperrealistic images in which the line between the artificial and the real disappears. Boelhouwer works across photography, 3D rendering, animation and installation. His work has been shown and published internationally, including at PH Museum, Bologna, Galerie Pouloeuff, Naarden, and Fisheye Immersive, which dedicated an article to his video installation Digital Tomb.

His work Digital Tomb is part of the IMPAKT Exhibition: Data Never Dies, on show from 28 August – 15 November.

The Affirmation Machine:
The work explores the mechanics of chatbot-amplified delusional spirals, evaluates the dangers of reinforcing both mainstream and divergent truths, and reflects on how technologies can exploit existing psychological mechanisms. The work aims to examine narratives of control that are created, influenced, or amplified by and through the use of AI. The Affirmation Machine questions your digital agency in a world of AI chatbots — what forms of control are you subjecting yourself to? Behind the project are: Luīze Ancāne (LV), Mădălina Zgreabăn (RO), David Tiemstra (NL) & Lawrence Kudria (UA)

The Makers Meet & Eat is organised by Creative Coding Utrecht, IMPAKT, RAUM, SETUP, HKU, Studio Camera, FAAM and the Netherlands Film Festival.
