Live, Laugh, Leitmotif
Joyce Overheul
Joyce Overheul is a political visual artist working mainly in the textile arts. Having grown up in an environment where it’s not a given that everyone is treated equally, she makes work about women’s rights, feminism, emancipation and inequality dynamics. Overheul uses mainly fabric-related techniques, including sewing, embroidery and bead weaving. Formerly widely regarded as ‘women’s hobbies’, these forms of expression are now being reclaimed as serious forms of art.
In this artist talk Overheul will highlight some of her projects and explore the key role in her work for humour, which she uses to ‘light the fuse’.
