The Dig

The School of Mutants (2024)

To dig, to unearth, to sink one’s hands into the sand, to build a castle, to make a hole and fill it again, to reveal what has been buried, to draw a conversation — we have all played with sand in one way or another.

The installation by the School of Mutants is a mutation between a sandpit and an excavation site, evoking this primal vocabulary of play and the fundamental human urge to uncover what lies hidden.

The School of Mutants invites everyone to take part in digging. The aim is to create a space for non-conventional learning and unlearning — a collective act that encourages each of us to excavate our own histories and share them with others.

What do we embody, and what are we searching for, when we dig into the past?
