With The Yes Men, Dries Verhoeven & Mary Maggic
Infamous activists The Yes Men use humour and trickery to combat the corporate takeover of society and the neoliberal delusion that’s allowing capitalism to destroy the planet. They’ve been using lies to expose the truth since 1996, creating spoof websites and carrying out countless culture-jamming interventions in the world of big business. Their approach has made them popular interview, conference and TV talk show guests. The Yes Men strategy is a response to the devastating and dehumanising actions of corporations and governmental organisations. The damage caused by those actions is piling up – just look at global warming, the depletion of planetary resources and all the unnecessary human suffering. The Yes Men fight for a necessary correction of the false identities used by corporations and governments, in order to expose their true, damaging impact.
Yes Man Mike Bonanno will talk about The Yes Men’s activities past and present, and their tactics and achievements. With video clips including scenes from their most recent film Adidas Owns the Reality.
Also present during this openingprogramme, are Utrecht based artist Dries Verhoeven and Chinese-American artist Mary Maggic, who will each talk about their work.
