Part of Salt, Sea and ZombiesThe Family & the Zombie
Australia 2021, 29:23 mins
The Family & the Zombie expands Karrabing storytelling into a hybrid form that combines film, installation, and narrative experimentation. The project draws on ancestral Emmi stories connected to the coastal region of Anson Bay in northern Australia. Through speculative imagery and collaborative performance, the work reflects on environmental fragility and the pressures placed on Indigenous territories. The “zombie” becomes a metaphor for destructive forces that continue to haunt the landscape, including extractive industries and colonial governance. The work situates these forces within a broader cosmology in which ancestors, land, and living communities remain interconnected.
