Part of Under OptimisationManifesto
Ane Hjort Guttu
Norway 2020, 27 minutes
In Manifesto, a small art academy fuses with a huge university and moves to a prestigious glass-and-steel newbuild. Now the artists’ studios look like office spaces, and everyone – students, teachers, staff members, and cleaners alike – has to follow the university’s new administrative procedures. But, in secret, they decide to self-organise as an independent art school, creating their own courses, programmes and leadership. Ane Hjort Guttu’s docu-fictional work is a daring manifestation of resistance against the ongoing economisation of the education system.
