Call for ARTISTS: EMARE Mexico Residency Exchange 2013 – Deadline 20 November!

CALL FOR ARTISTS: EMARE MEXICO 2013: residency exchange between European and Mexican Media Art institutes.


EMARE is presented by the European Media Art Network (EMAN) in cooperation with Centro Multimedia del Centro National de las Artes Mexico City & Centro de Arte y Nuevas Technologias San Luis Potosi.

The European Media Art Network and its partners provide residencies between April and September 2012 in Mexico, England, Germany, France and the Netherlands with support of the European Commission’s Culture 2007-2013 Programme, the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes Mexico, the Goethe Institute Mexico, the City of Utrecht, the Mondriaan Foundation, the Arts Council of England and the regional municipalities of Saxony-Anhalt in Germany and Centre in France.

European artists in the fields of digital media including internet and computer based art, filmmakers, sound and video artists can apply for a two month-residency at Centro Multimedia in Mexico City or Centro de Arte y Nuevas Technologias (CANTE) in San Luis Potosi.  Mexican based are invited to apply for a two months artist residency at Bandits Mages, Bourges (FR); FACT, Liverpool (UK); Werkleitz Centre for Media Arts in Halle (DE) or at IMPAKT, Utrecht (NL)

Within the framework of the European Media Artists in Residence Exchange program – EMARE  – four new media institutions are working together to support international collaborations, research and exchange, in what’s called the European Media Art Network (EMAN). Partners are the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology, FACT (Liverpool, UK), Werkleitz (Halle, Germany), Bandits-Mages (Bourges, France) and Impakt (Utrecht, the Netherlands).

The EMARE Mexico residency exchange is an opportunity for media artists, artists working with digital media, video, sound, interactive technologies, internet and the likes. The residencies are project based, with a finished work – for instance an (interactive) installation or a video piece – as the end result. Applicants should be prepared and able to complete their proposed project within the two-month duration of the residency.

The residency exchange takes place after the selection of Mexican artists by the European institutions and the selection of European artists by the Mexican institutions. The exact timing and length of the residencies will be decided upon in accordance with each individual institute. The duration of each residency is preferably two full months, and can in accordance with artists be shortened, however, not extended.
Students are not permitted, but young artists encouraged. EMARE MEXICO includes a grant of 2.000 Euro, free accommodation, up to 900 Euro travel expenses, access to the technical facilities and media labs and a professional presentation. In addition participating artists will take part at the final exhibition in Mexico City in October 2013. Entries should be submitted online and have to upload a CV, (audio) visual reference projects documentation and a proposal sketch for the project which should be developed within EMARE. Artists with residence in or identity card within Europe and Mexico can contact one of the institutions for further details before starting the online

In the framework of EMARE 2012, Dutch artist Rosa Menkman was selected for a residency at CANTE, San Luis Potosí, while Mexican artist Ruben Gutierrez  was invited for a two month-residency at Impakt
