Impakt Festival 2017 Announcement

Join us this year for Impakt Festival 2017: Haunted Machines & Wicked Problems, curated by Natalie Kane and Tobias Revell

From 25 until 29 October 2017

The programme of this edition of Impakt Festival seeks to address the relationship between technology, religion, magic and the occult. Through the framework of myth, magic and monsters, an international line-up of speakers, performers, thinkers, artists, designers and technologists will address how in magic, the spectacle is used to hide technical processes; in myth, how we build stories and narratives to culturally assimilate complex technologies; and how we use monsters to think about when things go wrong and people are hurt.

Sign up for the Facebook event to find out the latest information about speakers and events!

Here are curators Tobias Revell and Natalie Kane to introduce the festival:

Impakt tip: FIBER Festival, with installation and presentation by Impakt festival curator Tobias Revell.

Since 2011 the recurring FIBER Festival is an international meeting place for lovers and creators of art, music and digital culture. The theme this year is Prima Materia; alchemical thinking and making in art, design and music. The 2017 festival showcases artists and designers who question and re-imagine the relationship between man, technology and matter.

The Artefact exhibition On Alchemy and Magic, organised at De Brakke Grond in collaboration with FIBER, features the installation The Finite State Fantasia by Impakt festival curator Tobias Revell, who will also speak at the FIBER conference on Saturday 13 May. The exhibition will open on the 12th of May.

Date: 13 May
Time: 10:35
Location: De Brakke Grond, Nes 45 in Amsterdam

New Impakt Launch

With Impakt Channel, Impakt is trying to create an alternative for traditional media sharing websites, like Vimeo or YouTube. It offers more information, a curatorial selection and a critical view specific to the media art context.

Dissecting Mimesis
Breaking the Magician’s Code is so outmoded. Impakt therefore now shifts focus to artists. All secrets of the trade are for the taking in this programme. For everyone who always wanted to know why films make us laugh and cry and scare us: the curtain falls, but new mysteries come to the fore. With works by Emilia Ukkonen, Jack Feldstein and Paolo Gregori.

Beyond Architecture
Good architecture is a visual adventure, a sculpture allowing you to submerge in. Our urban and industrial landscapes reflect history and their public spaces are arenas which harbour unexpected forms of interaction. With works by Justin Bennett, Paulien Oltheten, Not an Alternative and D-Fuse.
