OPEN CALL: Meme-Maker Residency
with @freeze_magazine
From 18 May to 29 June, IMPAKT presents Crit Club: Meme Debates, an exhibition based on a format by Cem A., the artist behind the popular Instagram account @freeze_magazine, on which he shares satirical memes about the art world, to fuel the debate on art with creative energy. As part of this exhibition, IMPAKT and Cem A. are organising a meme-maker residency.
Are you the meme-maker able to reveal how memes can transcend fixed forms of debate? Do you also want to spark discussions with your memes? Do your memes reveal more about art than a 500-word curatorial text? Then we are looking for you!
Deadline: 20 April 2025, 23:59 CET
The residency
For the duration of the exhibition, as meme-maker* in residence, you will produce a series of memes related to the exhibition. For this, you will be invited to gather input during one of the two Crit Club debates taking place on 18 May and 8 June at IMPAKT in Utrecht. This meme series will then be shared via @freeze_magazine’s account and will become part of the exhibition Crit Club: Meme Debates at IMPAKT in digital form.
In addition, as meme-maker in residence, you will receive a fee of €150 and access to the exhibition and both Crit Club performances.
*Memes can take various forms, including photos, cartoons, GIFs, videos, text, and other media.
