Ancestral Intelligence: Shifting Worlds

What if technology isn’t just about speed and efficiency, but about how humans relate to the world through ritual, land, memory, and community?

This programme brings together three acclaimed artists from South America and Africa to explore Indigenous and diasporic knowledge systems, not as relics of the past, but as living frameworks that challenge how we think about progress and innovation today.

Through short films and artist talks, the programme looks at ancestral knowledge as a form of technological imagination rooted in cosmology, embodiment, and collective memory. These works confront the lasting effects of colonialism and displacement, while offering powerful models of resilience, restoration, and connection between people, and between people and the more-than-human world.

Rather than equating innovation with high-tech advancement alone, this conversation highlights other forms of intelligence: oral traditions, ecological stewardship, and embodied cultural practice. It offers a different lens on what the cities and societies of tomorrow could look like, if care, responsibility, and ancestral wisdom were placed at the centre.
