Part of Know How to Know How

#Tjaetsie / knowhowknow

Sissel M. Bergh

#Tjaetsie / knowhowknow reflects on the transmission of knowledge through everyday gestures, language and familial exchange. The film attends closely to the subtle ways in which understanding is carried through repetition, proximity and lived relation to place.

Against the backdrop of historical assimilation and language loss affecting Sámi communities, the work considers what happens when systems of knowledge are disrupted or rendered invisible. Through a quiet and attentive visual language, the film proposes that what has not been written down is not necessarily lost. Instead, it continues to circulate through relation – held in gestures, voices and the ongoing negotiation between memory and lived experience.
