Nicky Tavares

Nicky Tavares is a multimedia artist whose work spans from experimental documentary to handmade 16mm film to installation and sculpture. Her short documentary Fwd: Update on My Life screened at film festivals and micro-cinemas nationally and internationally including: New Directors/New Films (The Museum of Modern Art in New York & Lincoln Center), Impakt, the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, WAM!Boston Film Festival, Balagan Experimental Film Series, and MassArt Film Society.
Additionally her work has been shown at the Institute for Contemporary Art/Boston and featured in The Boston Globe. She is an Iqbal Fellow (2012), a LEF Foundation Grant recipient (2011, 2012), a Massachusetts Cultural Council Grant recipient (2011), a World Studio Foundation Scholar (2005), and a Walker Foundation Scholar (2003).
She holds an MFA in Film and Video from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and a BA in photocommunications from Saint Edward’s University. She has worked as a cinematographer for the PBS series Arab American Stories and has taught courses at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Mount Ida College and the International Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan. This past year, Nicky was a Visual Arts Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA. She is currently a Lecturer in the Division of Film and Media Arts at Southern Methodist University.
