V. Sheri Wills
(USA, 1997, video 4:00)
Wills combines images from the light-hearted Seventies soap opera Rhoda with the gloomy deama La Souriante Madame Beudet (1923) into a surprising and somewhat wistful piece which is accompanied by piano music by Debussy. The original meaning of the decelerated, scratched and recurrent scenes – on the couch, at the window, outside on the street – does not reveal itselt. Some images are especially striking in this new context: a woman places on earring in her ear while crossing the steet; two pale arms reach out in the dim light.
