Nelson Henricks
(Canada, 1997, video, 3:00)
The question of how one acquires knowledge is the central theme of this film. According to Henricks, knowledge is acquired from the sum total of image, sound and movement. He supports this proposition using footage shot through a window at his home. How do you get to know a place or a person? It is by seeing te repetition and variations in image, sound and movement. “Window attempts to show how the whole can be more than merely the sum of its parts.” The window creates a frame for the tree in front of the house and the people outside at different times of the year.
