Eija-Liisa Ahtila (Finland, 1999)

In three parts, the story is told about the separation of a young couple. In part one, the therapist gives advice about how to break up in harmony with each other. In the second part, a birthday party literally lands in the water – and under the ice. Consolation in, and acceptance of, the separation comprise the final section. This installation, a counterpart of Ahtila’s eponymous film (see Panorama – films and videos: The Beyond), enjoyed its premiere at the most recent Biennale in Venice, where she received an Honorable Mention.
