Mark Bain (Netherlands, 2000)

Bain has developed a powerful system that records micro-disturbances which occur throughout the materials of buildings and the earth. For this installation, Bain uses a recording made in Venice in which he collected ‘acoustic snapshots’ of subtle vibrations occurring in different areas of the city. In ‘Venice’ Bain turns a seating arrangement into an island in itself, a mechanism to travel within other lands, a displacement vehicle that moves without moving.
