With their new CD “Ideology”, Mouse on Mars mixes sampled instruments such as violin and cello with techno beats so incalculable that they consistently catch you off guard. With their stubborn fusion of rattling and suddenly breaking beats and electronica, Jan St Werner (electronics), Andy Toma (bass), and Dodo Nkishi (drums and vocals) were forerunners of many bands who would later connect dance and electronica. The group is also seen as an important source of inspiration for post-rock bands such as Stereolab. With their inescapable feel for pop, Mouse on Mars is still very much contorted, stretched, and mangled, elusive and yet accessible.
