SPACE BETWEEN US (2002)
Una Henry (Northern Ireland)
Space Between Us centres around the disturbed intimacy between two women. The installation is a story line arranged within the space, a sequence of instances and spheres.
In this work, the spectator passes through a number of phases in reverse chronological order. The labyrinth-like setup of the work reflects the complexity of the human memory and the way in which our mind orders events and emotions. In the first room, there are two identical, pillow-covered cabins separated by a glass wall. Variations in the lighting create an ambiguous situation in which voyeurism alternates with isolation. In the next stages of the work, the layout, light and sound of the installation feed the erotic potential of the spaces.
