PERFORMING ARTISTS

A number of projects within the IMPAKT festival feature artists that perform in their own work. This does not concern performance artists that record their work on video, but artists who departed from another starting point and who, not in the least to their own surprise, ended up with a performance.

The Slovenian artist, Igor Stromajer, for instance, started out with an exploration of the role of new art disciplines, like Internet art, next to more traditional forms of art. By drawing an analogy with ballet, his quest resulted in a break-in into the Moscow-based Bolshoj theater where he gave a clandestine performance of his Ballettika Internettikka. Another example is the SKOP collective that developed an interactive Kung-Fu Remixer for the Internet. However, this interface dedicated to Bruce Lee gave them so much pleasure that they now use it for live performances. Finally, Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay was so intrigued by the popular music industry and its image building that he started his own four-piece
boy band. In this couch.club, each of these artists will give their own special meaning to the notion of ‘performance’.
