Documentary nitrate film material from Dutch film archives served as the source for the subjects and shots for this documentary. Moeder Dao aims to show how the Netherlands administered their former colony  the Dutch East Indies and how it viewed their colony as a business enterprise. The usual commentary has been omitted. In it’s place, poems and songs in Bahasa Indonesia have been included in a digital sound composition.
