SOCIAL UTOPIA
Through the format of the music video, artists can address a very diverse and young audience. The programme Social Utopia in Contemporary Music Videos brings together works by artists who use the music video as a vehicle to communicate very specific views on our society and to broach topics such as family structures, racial relations, identity, and our ideals in life. The artists make use of various cinematographic and aesthetic means in their music videos. With their approach they expand the possibilities of the music video both with regard to form and to content.

Pop music reaches a world-wide audience and uses a universal language. Nevertheless it cannot do without its roots, its home base. This programme will explore the concept of the ‘home’ in pop music, hovering between the global and the local. The concept ‘home’ is an ideal, a projection, rather than a real place. This programme will focus on idealisations of family and social environment and the way these are sometimes merely broken by the ignorance of the fellow human beings.
