Run Wrake

31 October 2006
19:00

Location: Filmtheater ‘t Hoogt
Entrance: €7 (€6 with discount)

The British filmmaker Run Wrake is noted for his obscure animations and collaborations with artists such as Howie B, Stereo MCs, Manu Chao and Future Sound of London. While studying graphic design at the end of the eighties, Run Wrake became interested in animation and in the emergence of hip-hop and sampling. He developed a special sort of animation that is perfectly suited for these music styles and that stands out for the good synchronicity between music and image. His films are collages of photographs, live action and graphic illustrations, in which he harks back to Dada and Pop Art. Wrake created various leaders for MTV and others. For the U2 world tour of 2005, he made animations based on works by Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring.

His latest work, ‘Rabbit’ (GB 2005, 8 min), is a dark tale about the primitive urges of mankind. This short animation has already won many prizes.

For this Impakt Event, Run Wrake has compiled a film program that consists not only of a selection from his own short films and videos but also features works by filmmakers like Terry Gilliam, Jan Svankmajer, Shynola (UNKLE) and Andy Morahan (Art of Noise).

During the presentation, Run Wrake will be interviewed by Martijn van Boven about his work and his film choices.

With his film ‘Rabbit, Run Wrake will also be a guest of the Holland Animation Film Festival, which takes place on November 1-5, 2006.
