DIGITAL INTIMACY
Hooked on the electronic man!
Impakt puts the softer side of harsh technology under the microscope and unravels the mysteries and future visions of digital intimacy with robots, apps and online dating. On 12 October, Impakt will be part of the Culturele Zondag event “In de Ban van de Man” (Hooked on the Man). You can explore Digital Intimacy between 1 and 6 p.m. in the Kleine Zaal of Theatre Kikker. Entrance is free of charge.
With its 2014 program Soft Machines, Impakt is taking a look at machines with feelings. Can you live together with a robot? Can an app save a relationship? And can you find the ideal man through a dating site? Speakers include Vanessa Evers of the University of Twente, as well as Affect Lab and Tosca Sel.
You are very welcome to watch the continuous film programme and attend the presentation, either at 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. or 5 p.m. Due to limited capacity, tickets will be handed out at the door 30 minutes before each presentation.
2.00 pm – Vanessa Evers, University of Twente
Vanessa Evers is affiliated with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science, (EEMCS) and is the chair of Human Media Interaction (HMI). 3.30 pm – Affect Lab
Affect Lab collates and examines information on the affectionate aspects of mobile culture: the relationship between people, their emotions and mobile phones. A presentation on new forms of intimacy, prompted by our use of mobile and technology appliances.
5.00 pm – Tosca Sel on the Myths of Online Dating
Tosca Sel on the sense and non-sense of online dating algorithms.
Tosca Sel is a journalist and co-author of the book Daten is Meten about the science of dating. Can you find the ideal man online or would you be better off not gambling with your happiness?
