OPENING FESTIVAL

27 October 2016
17:00

Location: Theater Kikker

The opening of the festival programme will be in Theater Kikker on Thursday 27 October.

At 17:00 there will be an opening talk by Arjon Dunnewind, General Director of Impakt, followed by festival curators Bas Hendrikx and Barbara Cueto. Their work for the Impakt Festival 2016 has resulted in a wonderful programme that through exhibitions, lectures, film screenings and performances will take you on a search for the new meaning of authenticy. Deputy Mayor for Culture Policies Kees Diepeveen will also give a speech on behalf of the city of Utrecht. (Free entrance)

After the opening speeches, there will be an artist talk from Beny Wagner at 17:30 in Theater Kikker Main Hall. After a two month residency at Impakt, Beny Wagner produced a newly commissioned work that is on display at the exhibition. In the artist talk he will discuss his residency, his experience in Utrecht, his recent work and many other things. (Free entrance)

From 20:00 to 21:30 in Theater Kikker Main Hall there will be a keynote by Chus Martínez (ES), moderated by Barbara Cueto (ES). Chus Martínez is a curator, and currently Head of the Institute of Art of the FHNW Academy of Arts and Design in Basel, and was Head of Department at dOCUMENTA 13. The primary concern of her curatorial practice is the question of how thinking emerges through the substance of art. Her most recent projects have focused on the development of logics that can help us interpret the role of artistic research in relation to institutional forms and the wider cultural production of knowledge.

Finally, at 21:30 in Theater Kikker Foyer there will be a festive launch of the new Fireflies magazine (AU/IT). Join us for the launch of the fourth issue of Fireflies, which celebrates the cinema of Pedro Costa and Ben Rivers. Fireflies is an independent print film magazine operating from Berlin and Sydney. In each issue two extraordinary filmmakers are celebrated by an assembly of international writers and visual artists, through interviews and creative critical responses that include fiction, poetry and personal essays. The fourth issue of Fireflies has been produced by the editors in a residency at Impakt in September. Free entrance
