Sneak Preview Face Value Exhibition @ Uitfeest Utrecht
IMPAKT exhibition with live installation WeAlgo
Location: IMPAKT Centre for Media Culture
How does the meaning of the face change in a society in which we are increasingly digitally scanned and screened?
As a special sneak preview of the Face Value exhibition (opening at IMPAKT on 18 September), during the Uitfeest Utrecht, you can experience some of the artworks and talk to the artists. There is also a special live installation of WeAlgo: a project where you can make your own digital face mask based on facial recognition software.
WeAlgo is an online meeting place where participants can communicate through self-designed digital facemasks. It uses facial recognition software to allow users to have face-to-face conversations – without storing their data. By taking the visual language of the algorithmic systems as the starting point for creating the masks, this work makes visible the information that is important to these systems. In this time when we are increasingly finding ourselves in online spaces, WeAlgo also allows its users to maintain a form of anonymity and self-expression.
WeAlgo is a project by Martine Stig and Stef Kolman.
