This IMPAKT TV episode follows the screening programme Ocean of Love (2019), a film by Alexa Karolinski and Ingo Niermann. We show the Q&A that was recorded on the previous day with both filmmakers. Produced in Cuba, Ocean of Love is a docu-fiction showing ten volunteer members of the Army of Love, an alliance that offers trainings, recruitments, discussions and testimonial videos to promote the redistribution of sensual love to all who need it. Alexa Karolinski― Artist
Alexa Karolinski is a German-Canadian filmmaker, whose work includes two critically-acclaimed feature documentaries, several art films, and a long list of music videos and commercials. She now lives between Berlin and Los Angeles. She received the Grimme Prize for her first film Oma & Bella.”Karolinski co-wrote and co-created the Netflix show Unorthodox (2020), which has since been Emmy and Golden Globe nominated in addition to winning a Grimme, as well as Peabody award. In 2016, Karolinski started her ongoing art-video collaboration with writer/artist Ingo Niermann. Their film Army of Love premiered at the Berlin Biennale. It has since been included in exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou, MACBA, Castello di Rivoli, as well as CCCB and the Wiesbaden Biennale. Their second installment of the series, OCEANO DE AMOR, was part of a three month exhibition Auto Italia gallery in London and had its world premiere at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen in March 2020.
Ingo Niermann― Artist
Ingo Niermann is a writer and the editor of the speculative book series Solution. Recent books include Solution 295-304: Mare Amoris (2020), Burial of the White Man (with Erik Niedling, 2019), and Solution 275-294: Communists Anonymous (ed., with Joshua Simon, 2017). Based on his novel Solution 257: Complete Love (2016), Niermann initiated the Army of Love (thearmyoflove.net), a project that tests and promotes a just redistribution of sensual love. Together with film maker Alexa Karolinksi, he collaborated on the films “Army of Love” (2016) and “Oceano de amor” (2020).

She was selected for the Young Excellent Scholar Research Programme at CEDLA (Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation).
