IMPAKT TV with LaTurbo Avedon
On being an artist in the Metaverse
Location: Online: Planet IMPAKT
Join us on 7 December for the last IMPAKT TV episode of the year with LaTurbo Avedon, a non-binary artist and curator who exclusively performs as an avatar in the virtual world.
A digital native and an avid user, curator and artist within the digital space, Avedon was born around 2008/9 (though in interviews they mention that things started to make sense around 1995). The non-binary figure that is LaTurbo, is both the artist and the project, embodying not only the blurring of boundaries we are all experiencing between the online and offline spaces, but also the obscurity between the artist and the art itself.
Central to LaTurbo Avedon’s work are questions regarding the agency of digital beings and bodies, the unclarity between the online and offline spaces, and the importance of immaterial experiences. They are pioneers in looking into the fringes of internet cultures to discover shifts in society. In this episode we will share clips and images from Avedon’s work and digital artefacts that inspired their practice.
This IMPAKT TV episode is hosted by Arjon Dunnewind (General Director at IMPAKT), Michelle Franke (head of PR at IMPAKT).

LaTurbo Avedon― Artist
LaTurbo Avedon is an avatar and artist, creating simulation-based works that emphasise the practice of non-physical identity and authorship. They curate and design Panther Modern, a file-based exhibition space that encourages artists to create site-specific installations for the Internet. LaTurbo’s process of character creation continues through gaming, performance and exhibitions. Their work has appeared internationally, including MAK – Museum of Applied Arts (Vienna), The Manchester International Festival UK, Transmediale (Berlin), Haus der elektronischen Künste (Basel), HMVK (Dortmund), Barbican Centre (London), TRANSFER Gallery (New York), Galeries Lafayette (Paris), and The Whitney Museum (New York City).
