IMPAKT TV with Rafaël Rozendaal
NFTs and the Internet as canvas
Join us on 3 March for the first IMPAKT TV episode of the year with Rafaël Rozendaal. IMPAKT TV is a series of monthly online shows in which we reflect on the latest news and trends in art, technology and media. Our first guest in 2022 is Dutch-Brazilian internet artist Rafaël Rozendaal.
Rozendaal has been making digital art since 2000 and is one of the first visual artists to sell websites as art objects. At IMPAKT TV we will talk about his work, what he loves (and hates) about the current NFT boom and his approach of the Internet as a medium and canvas.
Since selling his first bright and colourful NFT artwork in 2021, he has become a leading artist in the blockchain art space too. Last summer he had success in selling 1000 NFT from his recent series Endless Nameless and gifting half of the profits to Rhizome, a platform for research and conservation of digital art. Endless Nameless is a generative NFT project wherein individual artworks—all squares filled with bars of bright colour—are made via an algorithm.
Rozendaal is interested in NFTs as a new phase in the distribution and experience of art, offering both new possibilities and new limitations. Yet, what makes NFTs unique as an art medium? How do they differ from other web-based works? How do you curate NFTs and how does this change the role of curator and institutions? And now that NFTs seem to be the most lucrative new trend in the art market, how is it changing the role of the artist?
These are some of the questions that we will discuss with Rozendaal, while also asking him about his own sources of inspiration: from digital pioneers to current exhibition and artworks we should not miss.
Tune in on 3 March from 20:00 at Planet IMPAKT
