IMPAKT at the UITfeest

Visit us at the Domplein and the IMPAKT Centre

13 September 2025
12:00 — 17:00

Location: IMPAKT [Centre for Media Culture]

This year during UITfeest Utrecht you can find IMPAKT at the Domplein, and of course we open the doors for the current IMPAKT exhibition Ambient Propaganda in our space at Lange Nieuwstraat 4. Join us this Saturday for a sneak peek of our coming exhibition I AM NOT AN ORACLE, a presentation of this years CODE projects and guided tours by the curators.

Domplein
Sunshine or rain, we will welcome you with CODE: Fortune Cookies – containing wisdoms and predictions that invite reflection on how technology influences our lives, decisions, and futures.

As part of the current IMPAKT exhibition Ambient Propaganda (open until 26 October), we will present: Pedro Gossler – FANFICTIONAL POLITICS (2022)

A video installation dissecting the entanglement of participatory fan culture with political myth-making. Drawing on internet folklore, gaming culture, and conspiracy aesthetics, Gossler shows how fan practices—projection, obsession, role-play—reshape political identity. The work reveals how affective online engagement blurs fact and fiction, transforming ideology into immersive narrative, and persuasion into performance.

And a preview of the coming exhibition: I AM NOT AN ORACLE (opening 14 November)

BBB – Songs of Cyborgeoisie, Game/Tarot (2023)
BBB creates hybrid performances combining brain-stimulating sound, visuals, and interactive tarot readings to open up alternative worldviews. Find a video installation and trot deck at this preview at the Domplein. Technology appears here both as a promise and as a potential trap.

Projects from CODE 2025:

V.I.B.E. – V.I.B.E. explores the rise of vibe culture as a dominant way of making sense in the post-truth era. Through a speculative electoral campaign and interactive installation, the project examines how propaganda is spread ambiently through memes, aesthetics, and short-form videos. By critically engaging with the memetic strategies of contemporary far-right movements, V.I.B.E. investigates how weaponized aesthetics normalize violence and promote authoritarianism.

Antoine Begon – Stickers: Begon connects the debate around smartphone addiction and hyperconnection to the historical fight against tobacco. Just like the tobacco industry once resisted regulation, today’s tech industry prioritizes profit over wellbeing. By remixing the visual codes of anti-tobacco propaganda, the project imagines what a grassroots campaign for digital wellbeing might look like.

Guided Tours: Ambient Propaganda
IMPAKT (Lange Nieuwstraat 4)
Visit our current exhibition Ambient Propaganda, with guided tours at 13:00 and 15:00.

Hidden in TikTok trends, memes, and influencer aesthetics, propaganda today spreads less through big slogans and mass media and more through vibes that feel good. This exhibition shows how information, emotion, and self-expression merge in online culture—and how that shapes political and social realities.
