On Thursday February 12 we present Centraal Laat x IMPAKT x Queer Ecology, the special evening programme in which IMPAKT and Queer Ecology will do a one-night takeover of Centraal Museum Utrecht, creating a unique event connected to the current exhibition, Getekend, de Natuur.

Centraal Laat x IMPAKT x Queer Ecology is for everyone curious about how humans, nature and technology are intertwined. Expect an evening of media and digital art, performances and conversations that invite you to look, listen and think differently.

Together with IMPAKT, Centraal Laat explores the relationship between humans and nature in connection with the exhibition Getekend, de Natuur. During the evening, visitors are free to explore the exhibition — including the striking film Broken Spectre — and take part in a programme featuring audiovisual performances, workshops, a reading group and a film screening centred on the theme of queer ecology.

Through literature, film and technology, multiple perspectives on ecology and the more-than-human world unfold. Artists and makers from Utrecht each bring their own approach to the themes of the exhibition, inviting you to reconsider the boundaries between humans, nature and media.

Experience nature through art, technology and imagination, and discover how contemporary makers open up new perspectives on our relationship with the more-than-human world.

IMPAKT presents works by three artists and collectives throughout the evening:

Abner Preis Nonhuman Nonsense Polymorf

Abner Preis

― Artist

Abner Preis is an Amsterdam-based experiential artist focusing on storytelling and new media. With a strong background in installation art, virtual sculptures, interactive performances, virtual reality, augmented reality, and education-based immersive experiences, he aims to tell stories with visuals that can be felt before they are understood, and to ignite the imagination by offering compositions that play to emotion before aesthetics.

Nonhuman Nonsense

― Artist

Nonhuman Nonsense is a research-driven art and design collective working in the fields of social dreaming and world-making. The collective’s practice engages with the nonhuman—animals, objects, ecologies, technologies, and the spectres that exist between and beyond fixed categories. Nonsense is approached as an antidote to “common sense,” using paradox and speculative storytelling to explore the ethical and metaphysical dimensions of relationships with the (nonhuman) world. The collective creates contradictory scenarios and propositions, drawing from and misappropriating ideas from science, computing, law, and mythology. These projects take many forms, including interactive installations, workshops, short films, public sculptures, campaigns, chatbots, and books. Guided by curiosity and compassion, Nonhuman Nonsense treats the separation of human and nonhuman as nonsense in itself. The collective frequently collaborates with other beings—scientists, researchers, and friends—but at its core consists of three people: Leo Fidjeland, Linnea Våglund, and Filips Staņislavskis, based between Amsterdam, Stockholm, and Dharamshala.

Polymorf

― Artist

Polymorf is an interdisciplinary Dutch experience design collective working across speculative design, immersive storytelling, and multisensory media. Designing with any medium necessary, the collective uses cutting-edge technologies to prototype possible futures and create fully embodied experiences. Their work spans VR, installation, performance, and hybrid formats, often engaging with scent, embodiment, and affect as narrative tools. Polymorf’s projects have been presented internationally and awarded, including the Art & Olfaction Award, IDFA Doclab Special Jury Award for Creative Technology, and selections by MIT, IDFA Doclab, and Venice Immersive. Through visceral and immersive design, Polymorf reflects on the present, the (post-)human condition, and evolving relationships between humans, technology, and ecology.
