Walking Simulator (NL, 2020)
Exploring breathtakingly beautiful virtual landscapes can give us intense experiences of connection with nature. When we walk about a digital forest we allow ourselves to just revel in idleness and curiosity. Unburdened by the objectives that often dictate real life excursions, like the need to complete a certain route, to reach a lookout point, or to share our adventure on Instagram, in Altera Natura we can simply engage with what there is to see. But where is the connection between this perfect, imaginary forest and our actual environment? Can the shimmering orbs that guide us through this digital beauty awaken our interest for the world that surrounds us outside? Or do we prefer the spotless imitation?
Kasper Steernberg― Artist
Kasper Steernberg (NL) is a graphic designer based in Bussum. Creating cinematic dream worlds, in which the viewer is removed from his own environment, plays a major role in his work. It often contains photo-realistic elements mixed with fictional objects that cannot exist in our world. Recognition versus disruption. Let yourself be carried away by his fascination with technology and the ability to turn a narrative into a visual story. Be amazed by its digitally generated landscapes and objects, and transport yourself into a new world.
