ARAB FUTURISM

Independent curator Nat Muller gives a talk on the reemergence of Arab Futurism in Middle Eastern contemporary art. Breaking with the dominance of cultural nostalgia, young artists are adopting the codes and time- tructures of science fiction, proposing parallel worlds and social fictions – where Chris Marker’s 1962 ‘La Jetée’ is restaged as an Egyptian apocalypse in 2026, and Palastinians have created their own lunar ‘nation estate’.
