Franco “Bifo” Berardi is a renowned theorist of contemporary media, culture and society.
He has lectured at the Academia di Brera in Milan and has been published and invited to speak widely across the USA and Europe. This respectable status is the result of a hard-fought struggle – his political and philosophical trajectory started in the radical social movements of 1970s Italy, in struggles that were central to his formation as a writer, thinker and activist.Berardi’s intellectual work explores the role that media and technology play in the post-industrial capitalism in which we live today, examining issues including digital connectivity, alienation, over-stimulation and automation. Central to this project is an ongoing study of cultural representation and our ideas of the future.
Friso Wiersum― Moderator
Friso Wiersum (1976) is a program maker, moderator and connector. Friso works as project manager communications at the European Cultural Foundation. He also is a member of Expodium, an urban do tank which curates, teaches and publishes on art and the city. He sometimes reviews books, is a member of a dj collective, rides his bicycle and plays baseball.

Franco Berardi, a.k.a. “Bifo,” founder of the famous “Radio Alice” in Bologna and an important figure of the Italian Autonomia Movement, is a writer, media theorist, and media activist, whose work mainly focuses on the role of the media and information technology within post-industrial capitalism. He currently teaches Social History of the Media at the Accademia di Brera, Milan.
