Operation Jane Walk

D.R.E.A.M. (RAUM) x IMPAKT Performance

1 March 2019
20:30 — 22:30

Location: Het Huis Koepelzaal

Operation Jane Walk is a performance by the Austrian artists Leonhard Müllner and Robin Klengel that uses the dystopian environment of the multiplayer shooter game Tom Clancy’s: The Division as the location for an informative city tour. All the violence inherent to the game goes ignored, instead the post-apocalyptic environment, a detailed replica of Midtown Manhattan, is re-used for a pacifistic tour exploring issues such as architecture history, urbanism and the game developer’s interventions into the urban fabric. Violence is ever-present in this militaristic game environment but the four performers, as urban flâneurs, try to avoid combat whenever possible. Directors Müllner and Klengel invite you to join them for this live performance and become peaceful tourists of this digital world!

Martijn de Waal, Professor of Play & Civic Media at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), will give a brief introduction and guide the Q&A after the performance.

This live performance is based on the short film Operation Jane Walk (Vimeo Staff Pick Award at IDFA 2018) that was screened during the first edition of D.R.E.A.M., a recurring short film programme at RAUM. RAUM is a new and ever-changing arts & design square in Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht. By 2025, about 30.000 houses will have been built in this new district of Utrecht. RAUM investigates the future of living in cities through various art disciplines and forms, in both public space and temporary architectural pavilions. The next D.R.E.A.M. edition (#3) will take place on the 28th of March at RAUM.

With Leonhard Müllner, Robin Klengel and Martijn de Waal. Organised by D.R.E.A.M. (RAUM) and IMPAKT

This event is part of Augment and Disrupt, the 2019 EMAP conference, a three-day mini-festival of panels, screenings and performances.
