Join forces with AI and win the IMPAKT 2023 Prompt Battle
Do you have what it takes to become a Prompt Engineer? Based on the Rap Battle format, Prompt Battle is a game show in which contestants compete against each other through a performative use of language. They use AI text-to-image tools to generate complex images, seemingly out of thin air, by typing in so-called prompts. The audience will decide who created the most surprising, disturbing or beautiful images, and who will walk away carrying the prestigious title Prompt Battle Winner.
The rapid technological advances in the field of AI-generated content that started in 2022 have raised a series of fundamental questions. For artists and designers the first question is whether it is really possible to automate creativity, and whether prompt engineering really is the key, future-proof capability that some believe it to be. Beyond the hype, far-reaching challenges and contradictions are emerging in the fields of ethics, economics, copyright and aesthetics. The Prompt Battle uses the game show format to address these questions in a playful way, confronting participants and the audience with prompt engineering tasks that are tailored to the occasion.

The original Prompt Battle was developed at HTW Dresden by Sebastian Schmieg, Florian A. Schmidt, Bernadette Geiger, Robert Hellwig, Emily Krause, Levi Stein, Lina Schwarzenberg and Ella Zickerick.
