What I'm Looking For

Shelly Silver

(United States 2004, 13:00 minutes)

What I’m Looking For is a short tale of desire and control. It tells the story of a woman who sets out to photograph moments of intimacy and posts the following message on an Internet dating site: ‘I’m looking for people who would like to be photographed in public revealing something of themselves.‘ The film documents this adventure and the connections that were formed at the intersection of virtual and actual public space. As the woman finds herself drawn into a series of meetings with strangers, her apparently simple task unfolds into ambiguity and obsession, ultimately becoming an investigation of the nature of photography, of documentary versus fiction, of private versus public, and of the real versus the imagined.
