Fecal Matters is a video documentary about the strange science of fecal microbial transplantation – or FMTs. This is a new field of medicine to look at microbiomes – ecologies within the body. Fecal Matters includes interviews with scientists in the field of gut microbial research including Dr. Ashish Atreja, Mt. Sinai Medical Center, NYC, a gastroenterologist interested in FMT for autoimmune disorders; Dr. Emma Allen-Vercoe, Guelph University, Ontario, Canada, a microbial ecologist and creator of the “Repoopulate” machine; Drs. Mark Smith and Zain Kassam of the non-profit stool bank OpenBiome, in Somerville, MA; and a fecal transplant procedure filmed in hospital with gastroenterologist Dr. Ari Grinspan, Mt Sinai.
