‘Serene Velocity’ is a 1970 American experimental short film directed by Ernie Gehr. He filmed it in the basement hallway of a Binghamton academic building, using a static camera position and changing only the focal length of the camera. It is recognised as a key work of structural filmmaking and has been inducted into the U.S. National Film Registry.

Ernie Gehr (1943, Milwaukee) started his career in 1968 as an experimental film maker in New York. He has been awarded on several occasions as recognitions for his important contributions to film art. His work mainly comprises of short films which have been screened at various festivals and in museums across the world.
