Since the late 1980s, after the collapse of the colonial Anglophone West African film industries, uneducated video enthusiasts in Nigeria and Ghana have founded a number of self-financed and independent video film industries. The Anglophone West African video films are especially popular among Africans in the diaspora. The focus of this lecture by Louise Müller will be on the distribution, the financing and the moral messages in these films and on the emerging new film cultures in the African diaspora communities of London and Amsterdam. Louise Müller is a historian and philosopher with an expertise in Ghanese and Nigerian(Nollywood) film.
