2019, Installation with video and objects, 45 min. 45 sec.
In all times and cultures, people have gazed at the heavens to find their bearings, seek answers and fathom the mysteries of the universe. Mamelles Ancestrales is inspired by the megalithic landscapes of Senegal and Gambia, by space debris, archaeology, astronomy, numerology, theology and an African conception of the cosmos. This impressive installation sets our ancestors’ search for ways of making contact with the starry sky against our contemporary urge to conquer space. In Mamelles Ancestrales Rezaire examines ancient African civilisations in an attempt to understand our own culture more fully.
Tabita Rezaire― Artist
Tabita Rezaire is an artist-healer-seeker working with screens and energy streams. Her cross-dimensional practice envisions network sciences - organic, electronic and spiritual - as healing technologies to serve the shift towards heart consciousness. Navigating digital, corporeal and ancestral memory as sites of struggles, she digs into scientific imaginaries to tackle the pervasive matrix of coloniality that affect the songs of our body-mind-spirits. Tabita is based in Cayenne, French Guyana.
