NETPORN: REALCORE
Realcore is the term that the journalist, musician and technology researcher Sergio Messina invented for a genre in online pornography. It has to do with the appeal of realism in sexuality. Porn as a documentary, in which amateurs determine the content and play the leading part. New technological developments have started off a revolution in pornography, in which many social conventions are questioned, for instance, the dichotomies between beauty and desire, between fiction and reality, and between pleasure and commerce. The focus has shifted from the objective presentation of lust to the subjective experience of it. In his presentation, Messina explains this new phenomenon, using visual material as illustration.
Including the work of Messina in my Channel Assignment in the form of an essay written by him concerning the DIY mentality of porn and how it is reinforced by the existence of the internet.
“Realcore is all about the reality of what you see, the truth of these images. It’s about the desire to see someone doing something because they like to be seen. They’re doing it because you are part of the game as well. You’re the audience. They get horny because someone is getting horny over them”.
