New resident artist at IMPAKT announced

This year we are welcoming artist Benedikt Terwiel as the 2024 EMAP Resident artists at IMPAKT [Centre for Media Culture]. The European Media Art Platform (EMAP) is a partnership of 15 European media art organisations, supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. Since 2018, EMAP has been supporting artists in the production of new work. During his residency, Terwiel will work on LAND BEFORE LAST: where he will explore the impact of industrialisation and human intervention and the traces it leaves on our planet.

For the 2024 EMAP residency IMPAKT [Centre for Media Culture] in Utrecht selected German artist Benedikt Terwiel. IMPAKT has worked with Benedikt Terwiel in 2022, when his very original and provocative piece Another Distinguished Member of the Humane Society was part of our The Curse Of Smooth Operations exhibition.

We were very happy to see that he submitted LAND BEFORE LAST to the EMAP 2024 call for proposals. The outcome of his proposal promises to be a strong and poetic work that relates very well to themes that IMPAKT is interested in. It will deal with the way technology changes how we see the world we live in and how perceptions of natural and artificial can become fluid. In his work LAND BEFORE LAST he will explore the impact of industrialisation and human intervention and the traces it leaves on our planet. Terwiel creates new perspectives on our civilisation by looking at it through new scientific, technological and temporal lenses. LAND BEFORE LAST also fits very well in the context of the Netherlands as a very densely populated country with advanced technological infrastructures and an extremely designed urban landscape.

Terwiel will be collaborating on the text for the proposed work with musician and artist ANOHNI.
