Artist in Residence
Marc Tuters and Ricarda Franzen
The Aboriginal Art Museum Utrecht was celebrating its 10 year anniversary by inviting 10 guest curators to reflect on Aboriginal art for the exhibition Be My Guest. And guess what, Impakt is one of them.
For this occasion we had invited new media researcher/artist Marc Tuters (Canada) and sound artist Ricarda Franzen (Germany) for an IMPAKT Works residency, to develop new work specifically for this exhibition. The project title was Ritournelle.
Ritournelle
Locative media offer the possibility to situate digital experiences in space, accessed through one’s mobile devices. The preferred genres in locative media are documentaries and games, recounting the history of a given place, or else using it as the backdrop for play. Their approach to locative media falls somewhere between fact and fiction, local stories and urban legends. They connect ephemeral objects, collected in town on Queen’s day, with mobile stories, half remembered, from Utrecht’s mythical past. These stories can be accessed via mobile phone using the 7Scenes software, or simply by plugging in a pair of earphones at select locations alongside the warfs of cities’ main canal.
