Artist in Residence
Erik Bünger
Three years after his first stay at IMPAKT in 2010 Swedish artist, composer, musician and writer Erik Bünger (1976) will stay for another IMPAKT Works residency from 1 July until 31 July. Bünger re-contextualizes existing media in his performances, installations and web projects. His work revolves around the human voice and how its contradictory relationship tot the body can undermine our common understanding of categories like identity, freedom, time, space, life and death.
The last couple of years Erik Bünger has been working on a series of essay-like piecies which are presented both as lecture performances and videos. In A Lecture on Schizophonia (2008) he researches how the recorded voice give rise to fantasies about eternal life or living death. During his last residency at Impakt Erik Bünger worked on The Third Man (2010) which is about the powerful effect music can have on humankind. This month he will work on his next work within this series The Girl Who Never Was. In this work he will take up stories and themes from previous pieces and bring them to a kind of closure.
Bünger lives and works in Berlin and his performance pieces, installations and videos have been shown, among others, at the Loop Festival in Barcelona, Images Festival in Toronto, The Lincoln Centre in New York, Queen Elisabeth Hall in London, The Perth Institute for Contemporary Art, HMKV in Dortmund, Tensta Konsthall in Stockholm, Transmediale in Berlin and The Werkleitz Biennal in Halle. He is also the creator of Let Them Sing It For You, a web art project which has reached over 6 million users.
