DOORS - Digital Incubator of Museums network

Innovating audience engagement with hybrid events

We are excited to announce that IMPAKT [Centre for Media Culture] has been selected to take part in DOORS – Digital Incubator for Museums, initiated by Ars Electronica, MUSEUM BOOSTER and Ecsite and funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020. Within this programme, we will work on developing ways to improve and differentiate our communication with new (hybrid) audiences.

Ever since the COVID-pandemic, IMPAKT has been at the forefront of experimenting with online and hybrid event formats that connect both onsite and online audiences. Our biggest take from our experience with these new formats is that we must invest in new and engaging ways to communicate with our audiences. There are numerous contact moments for visitors: how they get their tickets and event reminders, how they ask questions and how they are asked for feedback. During the DOORS programme, we will pilot a hybrid CRM tool to enable us to build meaningful and effective relations with our hybrid audiences before, during, and after events, tailored to the different audiences’ needs.

“It was inspiring to work together with so many cultural institutions across Europe, exploring a variety of tools to better understand our audiences and to develop more sustainable digital strategies.”

About the Incubation programme:
The DOORS Incubation programme consists of two phases. In the first stage, which took place from April to June 2022, we took part in a shared learning and capacity building programme to refine the initial pilot proposals, together with 39 other museums and cultural organisations. This stage consisted of a series of workshops, peer-to-peer sessions and mentorship sessions.

The second stage of the incubation programme will enable 20 of the pilots to become a reality. For 9 months, from November 2022 until July 2023, selected organisations will implement their digital pilots together with tech and creative industry partners.

About DOORS:
DOORS is a programme that supports smaller museums in the process of digitalisation and the challenges that come along with it. By offering 40 different museums assistance in developing their own digital transformation pilot, DOORS wants to research new ways that can help smaller museums bridge the gap towards the digital and make it easier for smaller cultural institutions to hook on to and implement new technological and digital developments within their organisation.
