IMPAKT invites: Mark Hosler
NEGATIVLAND Creative Media Resistance
7 February 2003
€6.50
The short films that will be showcased at the event cannot be seen through mainstream broadcasters. Therefore, anticipate that just as Negativland's music explores the grey area of legality between quotation and plagiarism, so too will this showcase. Hosler will also show examples from many projects and the playful actions that Negativland has carried out since 1980.
A lecture and film program by Mark Hosler of Negativland.
Mark Hosler is one of the founders of the famous American ‘sample’ collective Negativland.
The members of Negativeland are both artists and activists whose work seeks to give a voice to those in resistance to the growing influence of commercial interests in arts and culture.
Through the sampling of music and image material, they raise issues concerning copyright and authorship in a critical, but also often humorous, way.
The CD on which they sampled U2 music led to an infamous lawsuit granting the band widespread recognition.
