S+T+ARTS BUEN-TEK
Announcing a new programme in South America
We are delighted to announce that IMPAKT will organise Buen-TEK for the next year and a half. Buen-TEK was chosen as the winning project proposal within the call for proposals of the European Union’s new S+T+ARTS South America programme. With the S+T+ARTS programme, the European Union supports inspiring chaste exchanges between Science, Technology and Arts. In a partnership with five other European organisations, IMPAKT will stimulate innovation through a mix of art, science, technology, indigenous knowledge and South American culture. We will collaborate with ten South American consortium partners, based in Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.
Buen-TEK is a portmanteau of the terms Buen Vivir and Lo-TEK, and takes its inspiration from these two movements. As part of the Buen-TEK project we will offer several artist residencies, award prizes and exhibit artists over the next 18 months. But what do the two powerful concepts, Buen Vivir and Lo-TEK mean?
Buen Vivir is an indigenous philosophy that promotes harmony between humans, nature, and community. Rather than focusing on individual wealth, it emphasizes well-being, sustainability, and interconnectedness.
Lo-TEK (Local Traditional Ecological Knowledge) explores how indigenous cultures have developed sustainable solutions for environmental challenges. From the Inca waru waru agricultural system to other ecological innovations, these vernacular engineering solutions inspire new ways to build a more resilient future.
We can already reveal that this project, the prize winners and the residency works that emerge from it will be shown during a special edition of the IMPAKT Festival. For this reason, the next edition of our festival will not be organised in autumn 2025, but in spring 2026. Exact dates will be announced as soon as possible!
S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK is led by IMPAKT (NL), HACTE (SP), SONY-CSL Rome (IT), TBA21 (SP), Barcelona SuperComputing Centre (SP), and GLUON (BE).
